...walk humbly with your God... Micah 6:6-8
What does it mean to "walk humbly with your God?"
It is the idea of recognizing our relationship with God and mankind, having the heart of a servant.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” Proverbs 3:5. How do we trust the LORD? We must let go of ego and submit to God, as a little child. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God…” 1 Peter 5:6. “…Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein” Luke 18:17.
The Humbleness of a child...
They imitate and follow their parents. They seek to please their parents. They have a dependence on their parents. They have no worries. They feel safe/secure with their parents. They have an unconditional love and are quick to forgive.
As Christians we are to imitate our Father in Heaven and we seek to please Him. “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight” 1 John 3:22.
TO WALK HUMBLY BEFORE GOD...
We have to live according to His will, not mine. “And the world passeth away, and the lusts thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever“ 1 John 2:17. Our faith is shown by our deeds. “Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works” James 2:18. We focus on unseen realities as Heaven and Jesus. “For we walk by faith, not by sight“ 2 Corinthians 5:7. We base our lives on the never-changing standards of God’s Word, not the ever-changing standards of the world. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever“ Hebrews 13:8. “For I am the LORD, I change not…” Malachi 3:6. “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of God shall stand for ever“ Isaiah 40:8.
TO WALK HUMBLY BEFORE GOD...
We have to walk in agreement of His Word. “Can two walk together, accept they be agreed?” Amos 3:3. Our lives portray our testimonies. “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth” 1 John 1:5,6.
TO WALK HUMBLY BEFORE GOD...
Christians are obligated to recognize him as their God. In order to obtain his mercy in our salvation, walking humbly before him is a prerequisite. Walking humbly is the pathway to our salvation. “…as we have always obeyed… work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” Philippians 2:12. Our salvation will be by our own actions, not anyone else. “The soul that sinneth, It shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him” Ezekial 18:20.
